005: Scratching the Surface: Hip Hop Español

...
This is a brief, brief introduction to the world of Spanish language hip hop. Often times over-shadowed by African-American contemporaries, young Puerto Ricans, Cubans and Dominicans were a vital element of innovating hip hop culture and music in New York City in the late 70's. In many ways this shared heritage has been forgotten, but hip hop continues to flourish in almost the entirety of the Spanish speaking world.

Here we have artists hailing from Puerto Rico, Cuba, Argentina, Chile, Panama, Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, Mexico, Spain, UK and the US. This is not reggaeton, this is not salsa, this is not tango, this is not son.
Esto es hip hop Español.

004: Soaked Through & Hazy

...
Intended for rainy evenings, foggy mornings, long gazes, and times when it feels like a piece of wax paper has molded itself around your brain. Drawing mostly from modern electronic producers, this compilation floats between ambient soundscapes, eclectic sampling, washed-out melodies and tinkering percussion. These artists are pushing things forward in creating new textures and merging the dreamy with the harsh. This is some distorted form of tea sipping music.

Personal top selections include: Shell of Light (Shlohmo Remix) and Red Velvet or Nothing.
...Relax, enjoy...

003: GROOVE: Deep and Focused

...
This is a playlist that sets out to make you forget that you're actually listening to music. These tracks were selected based on their very repetitive, often times minimalistic attributes that carve out a sonic groove over time, allowing listeners to 'lose themselves' in the music. There is not one consistent genre present here, but rather a set of trance-like characteristics that are at times great for dancing, lounging, dreaming, or just experiencing.

My personal favorites are Wenzl McGowen's 'Daryen' (full album here), Fritz Hauser's 'Tic-Tac', and yes, Kendrick's 'Rigamortis'.

002: A Brief Introduction To: Stoner Metal

...
Drone metal, doom metal, minimalist post-grunge, psychedelic
metal, power-ambient and many more titles attempt to describe this drawling, dark and heavy noise that I file under the umbrella of 'Stoner Metal'. With intense amounts of reverb, layered chord progressions and thick, thick drums, these tracks represent the monged-out, dazed cousin of what was once Black Sabbath. Some slower than others, some scarier than others, all ready to be played at high volumes in dark spaces.
